Our Philosophy

The best way to learn guitar is to start playing. We’ll begin with practical skills and songs, then add new ideas as you’re ready for them.

Play First

A notebook with guitar chord diagrams and music theory notes, nearby a guitar, books on music theory, a black mug with the message "Better Players Brighter Days," and a few guitar picks on a wooden desk.

Get comfortable with the guitar and start making music.

Learn “why” chords, rhythms, and songs work—not just how to memorize them.

Understand Second

Build on what you know through practice, repetition, and continued playing.

Master Over Time

You don’t need to read music, know music theory, or have played before. We’ll start with the fundamentals and build your skills at a comfortable pace.

If you’re returning to guitar or already have some experience, lessons can help you strengthen your foundation and explore new areas, including rhythm, tabs, scales, lead guitar, and electric guitar techniques.

You’ll learn one piece at a time, with each new skill building on what came before.

Learn Songs You Want to Play

Songs help turn new skills into music you can enjoy. We can work with music that interests you while developing chords, rhythm, timing, strumming, and technique.

The goal is to help you use what you learn—not leave it behind as a list of exercises.

Meet Your Instructor

Hi, I’m Travis, the instructor behind Guitar Lessons by Travis. My teaching approach is built around a simple idea: guitar lessons should help you play music, not just memorize information.

I work with beginners, returning players, and intermediate guitarists. Lessons give you a clear next step, introduce new concepts as you’re ready, and help you apply them to the guitar.

In Person or Online

Two people, a man and a boy, are playing guitars and participating in a virtual guitar lesson on a laptop. The man is in a room with guitars hanging on the wall, and the boy is in a room with a bed and a window. A computer screen shows the man giving a guitar lesson, indicating an online learning session.

I offer in-person guitar lessons in Grand Blanc, MI, as well as online lessons.
